Xheladin Agjani stands proudlly in the new Golden Eagles EC10 Albanian All-Stars home team dressing room
Alin Badiu (via call, with his playful French twang): "Monsieur Agjani! As the golden boy of the Golden Eagles sits in that state-of-the-art dressing room, one has to wonder, how does a young lad from the streets of Tirana feel amidst all this grandeur?"
Xheladin: "Alin, it's a blend of emotions. There's immense gratitude for where I've reached, but also the humbling reminder of where I began. This room, with its luxury, is a testament to hard work. But my heart? It's still in those dusty streets of Tirana, with kids dreaming big."
Alin: "Ah, Tirana. Paint us a picture. What was a typical day in young Xheladin's life back in those days?"
Xheladin: "It began with the morning hustle of school, but my mind was always on the evening games in the local park. After school, I'd rush home, finish my homework, and then it was all about football. The streets would come alive with the shouts, tackles, and goals. When dusk settled, and the makeshift goals were packed up, we'd sit around, talking about our favorite players, dreaming of playing in big stadiums one day."

Tirana - a ball sits in the backstreets, waiting for the players to return...
Alin: "A dreamer, always! Tell us about the moment you felt football wasn’t just a hobby but a calling."
Xheladin: "There was this one match in our local league. I was around 13. The opposing team was tough, older boys. We were trailing 2-0 at halftime. But something clicked post the break. I scored a hat-trick, and we won 3-2. The applause, the joy in my teammates' eyes, that adrenaline... I knew then, this was what I was meant for."
Alin: "A pivotal moment, indeed! Transitioning to professional football couldn't have been easy. Tell us about your early days at the Golden Eagles Academy. Any challenges that stand out?"
Xheladin: "It was a mix of awe and anxiety initially. Training sessions were rigorous, and there was a constant pressure to perform. One challenge that comes to mind was my first away game with the academy. The hostile crowd, the chants... it was intimidating. But it taught me resilience. Every taunt became a reason to push harder, to prove myself."
Alin: "Your spirit is truly commendable. Now, having seen both worlds, from the streets of Tirana to the polished pitches, any differences in the style of play?"
Xheladin: "Street football is raw and instinctive. It's about the moment. Professional football is more structured, strategic. While the essence remains the same, the approach is different. But I believe my street days gave me an edge; it taught me to think on my feet, to innovate."
Alin: "Ah, the best of both worlds! Now, every player has influences. Who were the idols you looked up to? And within the Golden Eagles, any players who've been your guiding light?"
Xheladin: "Growing up, I idolised Mr. Celaj. His gameplay, his passion, it was mesmerising. Within the Eagles, it has to be our captain. His dedication, his commitment to the game is unparalleled. He's been both a mentor and a friend, shaping my journey."
Alin: "Ah, Edi! A legend in his own right. Surely, an inspiration for many. Tell us, how much of an influence did he have in shaping your style of play?"
Xheladin: "Edi was like a football deity for me. I would watch his matches and try to emulate his moves, his style, and even his work ethic. The way he controlled the ball, his vision on the field, it was poetry in motion. He made me realise that football is as much about the mind as it is about the feet."
Alin: "Speaking of feet and physique, from what I've heard, you started as quite a scrawny lad but transformed into this athletic powerhouse. Was that transformation natural?"
Xheladin: "Oh, not at all! That's a credit to my mother. She believed that to compete at the highest level, I'd need strength. Our Albanian diet, rich in meats, dairy, and local greens, became my daily regimen. My mother made sure I had the right nutrition to build muscle and stamina."
Alin: "Your mother sounds like a visionary! Tell us about your early achievements. There's a buzz that you've been quite the star in your youth days."
Xheladin: "Well, before the Golden Eagles, I played for 'Tirana Talons', a local amateur youth team. The journey there was filled with milestones. Winning 'Youth Player of the Season' multiple times was a huge honor, but the most memorable was clinching the 'Golden Boot'. It wasn't just about the goals; it was a testament to the teamwork, the camaraderie."
Alin: "Ah, the 'Tirana Talons'. A breeding ground for many talents! Looking back at those days and now, gearing up for matches against teams like 'Reeal Madridd', how do you handle the pressure?"
Xheladin: "I've always believed in converting pressure into motivation. Every challenge is an opportunity. The bigger the game, the brighter you need to shine. My teammates, coaches, and of course, the fans – their trust fuels me."
Alin: "Speaking of fans, any message for the young ones looking up to you, aspiring to be the next golden boy of football?"
Xheladin: "To all the young dreamers – never stop believing in yourself. There will be challenges, naysayers, tough days. But remember, every legend was once a dreamer. Work hard, stay grounded, and cherish every moment on that field."
Alin: "A beautiful message to end our enlightening conversation. Xheladin, thank you for letting us into your world, your journey. We'll be cheering for you in the days ahead. Fly high, young eagle!"
As the call concludes, the gravity of Xheladin's journey from the streets of Tirana to the dazzling world of professional football becomes palpable. The Golden Eagles have truly found a gem, and the skies are the limit.
A pic like the good old days of the blogs!
